Southwater is a large village on the outskirts of the Horsham District of West Sussex. It is an incredibly popular area for families, with fantastic primary and junior schools along with an abundance of countryside walks and excellent recreational facilities.
In 2006 the centre of Southwater was redeveloped creating the popular Lintot Square. Lintot Square is teeming with a host of shops and amenities. Whether it’s a supermarket, gift shop, chemist, doctor’s surgery, library, beauty salon or a place to eat or drink with friends, everything you need is on your doorstep.
There is also a lovely café selling homemade cakes, and three popular public houses: the Hen and Chicken; the Tipsy Fox; and the Lintot. Interestingly, Lintot is a reference to Barnaby Bernard Lintot (1675–1736), an English publisher born in Southwater.
Southwater has an abundance of activities for all ages. You will find most will take place at the expansive 90-acre Country Park. Southwater Country Park offers a selection of outdoor activities including an adventure-style play area (now known as Dinosaur Island), orienteering course, canoeing, sailing and windsurfing.
The Park has a café, Visitor Centre and a beautiful wildlife area, ‘The Quarry’, which is managed for nature conservation and supports wildlife such as lizards, Kingfishers, Nightingales and various butterflies and dragonflies. The adjacent Downs Link Bridleway passes through the Park, making it a base to explore further afield on foot, bike, or horse.
For families, there is a fantastic selection of schools which include the following:
Primary and Junior Schools in Southwater:
Secondary schools in the local area:
Private and boarding schools:
As well as the activities in the Country Park, you can also find the new Southwater Sports Club which offers a variety of indoor and outdoor sports including Football, Tennis and Cricket. You will also find The Ghyll, which was formerly known as the Village Centre.
At The Ghyll you have access to the Performance Zone gym, Multi-Use Games/Sports area along with a football pitch, bowls club, bar and meeting rooms. Dotted around the village and amongst the quiet cul-de-sacs you will find a number of will equipped children’s play areas.
For commuters, there are three Train Stations locally that provide easy access to London and the coast.
There is also a regular Bus service (No’98) which runs 7 days a week, with a number of stops throughout Southwater.
